How the World’s Largest Employers Hire Thousands of Staff with Daniel Ash of Journeyfront

Daniel Ash is the co-founder and CEO of Journeyfront, the applicant tracking and assessment platform built specifically for BPO hiring. He is on a mission to make hiring predictive instead of a guessing game, using assessments, job simulations, and data to get the right people into the right roles at scale.
Today, more than 50 BPOs run on Journeyfront to power over 100,000 agent hires a year, hiring faster while cutting new-hire attrition by 29%. He speaks on predictive hiring, agent retention, and quality of hire in high-volume recruiting.
Daniel joins the Outsource Accelerator Podcast to explain how the biggest employers hire at a scale most people never see. The conversation covers the sheer scale of BPO hiring, why it looks different in every country, and how AI is changing the game without replacing the humans behind it.
Journeyfront
Daniel is clear about what the platform is for. It is not a general tool, but one shaped around the demands of high-volume hiring.
“We are an intelligent hiring platform that’s built for contact centers, and especially BPOs… helping contact centers, BPOs hire at volume, at scale, hire fast, but also hire right.”
Hiring at a scale most people never see
The numbers behind mass hiring are hard to picture. Daniel puts them in perspective.
“We have clients that will be reviewing hundreds of thousands, if not millions of applicants a year and hiring tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of hires a year.”
The hard part is not just volume, though. It is doing all of that across many countries and many clients at once.
“They’re doing this in the Philippines and Latin America and the US and Europe and Asia all at once… spread out over many different clients, upwards of tens or even hundreds of different client types with different profiles.
That is the uniqueness of BPO hiring and the complexity of BPO hiring that Journeyfront is built to help manage.”
And a poor hiring decision is costly, fast.
“You live with the consequences of that decision… you see both of these types of organizations deal with often high turnover in the first 90 days of a hire’s time at that company, which can be incredibly expensive.”
Why hiring looks different in every country
Journeyfront works across more than 50 countries, and Daniel says the core principles hold everywhere. The tactics, however, change completely by geography.
“How you source in one geography is gonna be very different [from] how you source in another…
In the US you might rely on job boards like an Indeed… but in Latin America and the Philippines, they’re much more reliant on things like recruitment marketing ads running on Facebook or Instagram, or even hiring events where they’re bringing people in on the weekends, or walk-ins.”
The same is true for how you reach candidates. What works in one market falls flat in another.
“Email, text are king in the US, but in large parts of Latin America, the Philippines, it’s not king. In fact, you’re gonna have to rely on things like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.”

Learning from every hire
Most hiring tools stop paying attention once a candidate is hired. Journeyfront does the opposite, and Daniel sees that as the difference.
“Our system has this automated feedback loop built into it where we will ingest a company’s post-hire data… our system learns for every individual client what’s predicting performance and retention, and what to change in the hiring process so you can get hiring more and more, not just faster and more efficient, but more and more accurate over time.”
The stakes are high, because in many operations only half of new hires last three months.
“Sometimes you’ll see only 50% of those hires making it past 90 days.”
Across millions of candidates a year, that data compounds into a rare view of what actually predicts a good hire.
A measured take on AI in hiring
Daniel sees AI raising the stakes, not lowering them. As it takes over the routine work, the human work left behind gets harder.
“As AI is automating more of the simple stuff, that performance is gonna matter even more, because the stuff that humans are gonna be doing is more complicated.”

He is enthusiastic about AI, and Journeyfront uses it for resume scoring, interviews, and candidate communication. But he is unusually candid about the risks, starting with cost.
“We have perhaps the largest investments ever made pumped into AI in a short period of time. So it is being subsidized… that cost structure has not hit the consumer yet.”
He argues the honest position is to hold two opposing ideas at once, rather than pick a side.
“A sophisticated mind can and should be able to hold two contrary thoughts in your head at the same time… AI will be part of the future, it is a transformative technology, but also there’s hype out there, and there’s risk out there.”
And he has a favourite line for anyone who sounds too certain.
“If you’re not confused, it’s ’cause you don’t truly understand the situation.”
That is why Journeyfront builds for balance, blending AI with deterministic automation and human judgment so each does what it does best. It also designs its AI to be auditable and override-able, ahead of hiring rules like the European requirement for human override arriving in December 2027.
Where hiring goes next
Some of what people call the future is already routine. Asked whether AI would run first-round interviews, Daniel did not hesitate.
“That’s already happening. We already have clients using our tool in that way.”
The bigger shift, he says, is where the value moves as automation gets cheap.
“As the cost of screening candidates goes down, the demand for intelligence… goes up… skate to where the puck is going, not where it is.”
He is also sharing what a decade at the frontline has taught him, in a new book aimed at the industry.
“We just launched a book at CCW Vegas… called ‘The BPO Hiring Playbook: Strategies and Tactics for High-Volume, Client-Focused Hiring’ that extrapolates a lot of the lessons learned around hiring at scale.”
For Daniel, hiring thousands of people well is not about choosing humans or AI. It is about combining sourcing, screening, data, and judgment into one system that keeps getting more accurate with every hire.
