Outsourcing Excellence in Design & Construction – with Joelle Goudsmit of Dimension All Group
In episode 548 of the Outsource Accelerator Podcast, Derek Gallimore is joined by Joelle Goudsmit, Managing Director of Dimension All Group. It’s a niche outsourcing firm focused on engineering and design support services for the construction, industrial services, and energy sectors.
Joelle talks about how her firm showcases Filipino talents and how effective they can be even in a remote setting.
Dimension All Group
Joelle explains, “Dimension All Group is a niche outsourcing company. We help construction, industrial services and energy companies scale their teams efficiently without compromising quality, safety, or control.”
Dimension All Group specializes in hiring engineers, designers, and role-specific support staff like document controllers and financial controllers. These are highly skilled positions that don’t require on-site presence but benefit from strong technical understanding.
“Anything where they don’t have to be on site necessarily… a lot of our teams, they will rotate into our clients’ offices for a couple of weeks and then come back and then do the bulk of the work at home,” Joelle says.
She notes this hybrid flexibility is especially viable for Australian clients due to simpler visa processes. “It’s more common than you’d think,” she adds.
Worksharing, not outsourcing
Despite the common label of “outsourcing,” Joelle prefers a different term: worksharing. She explains that traditional outsourcing implies a loss of control—something that doesn’t resonate well with their conservative industry clientele.
“In the construction industry, when you say that you’re outsourcing something, it means that you let control go to an outside company or entity… We really had to rename it,” Joelle says.
“Worksharing for us really tells the client that the teams that we hire are their dedicated teams. They retain control and they share the work from their principal offices with their team members who are in the Philippines.”
Building teams with intentional hierarchies
Rather than providing generic staffing, Dimension All Group takes a long-term, structured approach to team building. They encourage clients to begin with leadership hires who can grow into cornerstone roles.
“Let’s hire intentionally so that this first person is going to be the cornerstone of your Manila team. That person is going to be the lead for you,” Joelle explains. “The hierarchy in the Philippines of the team normally mimics the hierarchy of the teams that we service overseas.”
They support these teams with dedicated local oversight and regular touchpoints. “Every day, every person who works for us is contacted by their team director.”
Compliance, ethics, and legal hiring in the Philippines
Joelle emphasizes the importance of ethical hiring, especially given the stringent compliance requirements in construction and energy sectors.
“We are very clear about modern slavery… foreign corrupt practices… insurance,” Joelle says. “We are also a D.O. 174-licensed company in the Philippines.”
She explains the implications: “The letter of the law is if you don’t have a Philippine entity, you need to hire an employee through a local Philippine company… The majority of consultants [don’t] necessarily do this.”
Joelle notes that Dimension All is held to high standards by its clients: “They have held us to the standard and… I hope that we rise to it.”
AI integration in engineering and design
Dimension All Group is cautiously integrating AI into its operations, particularly in software-specific use cases like Revit for MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) design.
“For Revit… they’re starting to roll out within the new 2025 Revit– a no clash system which is AI powered,” Joelle shares. “Will it mean that less design work will be done? No. Will it mean that less humans have to be there to do the detailed design work? Yes.”
She also highlights the internal AI upskilling efforts: “We’ve rolled out some modules… how to write a great prompt… what kind of questions should you be asking AI.”
Fair employment and industry standards
For Joelle, ethical business practices are a personal and professional priority.
“We believe that you have a responsibility to the community, not just for CSR, but also to provide fair employment,” she says. “Your employees are true members of the community… taxpayers, but receiving full benefits and not cutting corners.”
The company also educates staff on financial literacy and government services: “We run literacy classes for these government services. It’s really eye-opening.”
