Clocks are essential to us. They tell us what time it is, whether it is morning, noon, or night, and allow us to organize our day’s flow.
David Finkel, author and CEO of the business coaching company Maui Mastermind, also believes that watching the clock could greatly impact how clients and employees would behave.
Here’s how he explained it:
Watching the clock with your team
Every hour is critical, so being mindful of the clock is crucial for leaders.
Regarding your employees, being aware of the time could affect how they work. For example, do you arrive early or on time for meetings? Finkel said that this trait shows that you value your co-workers’ schedules.
Do you arrive on time when meeting with clients? This shows your team that you value your customers and that they should always be a top priority for everyone on your team.
Do you make sure you submit any time deliverables on time? Your team will follow suit, and you will have a much easier time meeting deadlines and company goals.
Watching the clock with your clients
How you handle time can also directly impact how your customers perceive you and your business.
Showing up for meetings on time or early shows that you value their business and know that their time is precious.
Spending time with them during those meetings and ensuring their needs are met also goes a long way in developing a long-term business relationship.
Getting your product or service out on time and responding to any issues or refunds will help your customers gain trust in the services you offer.
The same goes for returning emails and phone calls. Doing them as soon as possible helps make you more trustworthy, which allows customers to gain confidence in your company.
As Finkel said, Humans are inherently inductive machines. We constantly absorb behavior patterns from people around us and change how we work or interact with our colleagues based on those inductions.
Leaders are prime examples for their colleagues and clients. Being mindful of how you deal with time-sensitive issues will help set the right tone for your business. At the same time, it would ensure a helpful, healthy, empowering, and meaningful atmosphere for your employees and customers.
