Black Piano is a UK-based talent partner and Employer of Record (EOR) that helps small and medium-sized businesses build remote teams from India. Founded in 2020 by Jonathan McElhatton and Abhishek Maurya, the company works with clients in the United Kingdom, the United States, South Africa, Australia and across Europe, many of whom are hiring overseas talent for the first time.
Its service combines three parts. First, remote recruitment: Black Piano’s recruiters source candidates from the Indian labour market to fill a client’s open roles, and the company says it prides itself on speed. Second, Employer of Record: Black Piano becomes the legal employer of each new hire, while the employee works exclusively for the client like permanent staff.
Third, remote HR: the company manages ongoing people issues such as pay, leave, pensions and tax, and supports retention through what it describes as a comprehensive HR service. It also handles employment admin such as supplying laptops and running payroll, all for a single monthly fee.
Black Piano recruits across a wide range of roles. Its website lists business operations, creative, data engineering, delivery management, software development, digital marketing, finance, sales and client services, SEO and PPC, service desk and testing roles. Team members shown on its site include software and front-end developers, QA engineers, data engineers, UI and UX designers, SEO executives and project support staff, led by a country head in India.
The company’s pitch is recruitment without upfront fees and savings of up to 50% compared with local hiring. Its site includes a quote tool comparing Black Piano’s monthly cost with the average UK cost for each role. While its focus is India, Black Piano says its EOR service can support hiring in more than 60 countries. It operates from the UK and from Pune, India.
Black Piano suits UK and other Western SMEs that want to hire dedicated Indian developers, marketers or operations staff without setting up a local entity, and that value a hands-on partner for recruitment and HR.
