Intel trims workforce, names Infosys as sole contractor
Intel has laid off hundreds of workers in the US and Costa Rica as it consolidates its operations under a single contractor, Infosys. According to reports, the number of layoffs is the largest in the recent past, although it is meager compared to the 16,000 people who lost their jobs in 2016 and 2017. Intel stated that they didn’t lay off their employees as a cost-cutting measure, but rather reduced the size of their workforce in order to simplify the way the company works. In a statement, Intel said changes in its workforce are driven by the needs and priorities of its business, which it continually evaluates. They added that these layoffs are not going to affect Intel’s long-term plans, nor are they going to affect the company’s ability to produce a sufficient number of CPUs. Infosys has not issued an official statement yet.
