Converge pledges faster, cheaper internet access for Luzon
A new fiber-optic domestic gateway is set to deliver faster internet access at a lower cost to residential users across Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines and home to Manila, the national capital. The service, which will also connect to a number of the surrounding islands, was announced by Dennis Anthony H. Uy, president and CEO of Converge ICT Solutions, a Pasig-headquartered telco, and is expected to come online before the end of next year.
Detailing the proposal, Ut said 1.2 million ports will be installed across Luzon, from Baguio to Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan then to Quezon, Cavite and Sorsogon. From Matnog, the cable will cross Samar, before extending to San Juan, Batangas, Mindoro, Panay and Cebu.
In order to deliver on the project, the company will lay 1,800 kilometers of subsea fiber optic cable and install 20 landing stations. Ultimately, the network will extend to all of the region’s cities, towns and village, with the aim of delivering fiber-optic connectivity to every home. The project forms an integral part of the company’s five-year US$1.8b capital expenditure program, which it announced last year.
